LTE in response to editorial article by Holly and Doug Deason: What do the Koch brothers want? To defend the American dream

Yet another article trying to justify the Koch brothers $1B pledge to buy the next election. The Koch brothers and their corporate and rich friends do not just want smaller government – they want no government. No Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Minimum Wage, and Regulatory Agencies that protect citizens (ex. FDA, OSHA, Consumer Product Safety Commission, and EPA).

Gun Sense Voters

On Valentine’s Day this year, the Liberal Ladies of the Rockwall County Democratic Party hosted a special event for the romantically inclined. This festive event was very well attended this year with spouses and significant others invited. The food was great, decorations were impressive and good fellowship all around.

Why Texas should expand Medicaid

Governor Abbott has an opportunity to do the right thing for Texas and provide Medicaid expansion for the estimated one million Texans earning less than the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). These people do not earn enough to qualify for premium subsidies under the Affordable Care Act. Their only health care option is to either forego treatment or go to the emergency room where you and I pick up the bill. Medicaid expansion would save our state an estimated one billion dollars in uncompensated health care …

Texas schools are not funded adequately.

 

 

Article 7 of the Texas Constitution states that the Legislature has the duty to “establish and make suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient system of public free schools”. What are we to make, then, of Governor Abbott’s threat that he will veto the state budget if it does not leave enough money for cutting business taxes? (Dallas Morning News, 2/4/15)

Caitlyn and Tim Wells, and Karen and Steve Jacobs attended Blue in the Heart of Texas 2 for Dallas County on January 31st.  Keynote speaker was Judge Tonya Parker, and MC Judge Ken Mohlberg. Speakers included Jeff Dalton, Robert Milkos-former State Representative, Darlene Ewing, Chair, and Taylor Holden Executive Director. Mike Collier, our 2014 candidate for Texas Comptroller also attended.  It was a great time and the team is bringing back some best practices.
